My son graduated from high school… on his 18th birthday. It was one of the best days ever, and I still can’t believe that the little boy who used to ask me 47 questions before breakfast is now an adult.
We’re celebrating with a 5-week family adventure: Phoenix → San Diego → Tokyo.
Lots of hot weather is coming my way!
Why Tokyo? I am visiting Aizome’s traditional Japanese Indigo dyeing facility. This is such a DREAM come true, and I can’t wait to share everything.
But what I can share right now is my non-toxic, holistic travel list. Just because I’m traveling doesn’t mean I’m willing to compromise on certain things.
Sleep Favorites
You already know I don’t travel without my AIZOME pillowcases. They are the only company to manufacture with zero detergents or synthetics. AIZOME uses organic, wild-grown cotton and dyes made from plants that have skin-healing properties.

After suffering from Tinea Versicolor for over a decade, I switched to AIZOME sheets and couldn’t believe how quickly my skin cleared up!
An AIZOME pillowcase always finds a way into my suitcase.

Sun Protection
Sunny Sailor, Young Living, and Blissoma are my sunscreen go-tos, and yes, we will use all 3!
BODY: Sunny Sailor is the new kid on the block, and they hit it out of the park! It’s loaded with organic ingredients like olive oil, shea butter, and calendula oil to aid in natural sun protection. The clear zinc oxide prevents a white cast.

FACE: If you want a sunscreen that will not break you out, is acne-safe, has won awards for eczema-safety, and has no skin-disrupting silicones, but is made with organic herbs and vitamin-rich oils, keep skin super healthy and glowing…Blissoma Photonic is it!
ALL IN ONE: Young Living WORKS! Lots of skin-loving ingredients and definitely more of a luxury sunscreen.
Mood and Atmosphere
If there’s one thing that instantly makes a hotel room feel less like a hotel room, it’s the scent. I always bring my portable waterless diffuser and my favorite Simplified Scents (get your own here!)
Waterless means no mess or spills in your bag after a long travel day. Just plug in and let it do its thing.
Morning Ritual on the Road
My morning routine is sacred, and it doesn’t get a vacation. My trusty “not a weenie” frother for my JI Bone Broth Mint Chocolate coffee always has a spot in my suitcase.
The frother takes up almost no space in your bag, and the JI powder travels perfectly in a small container, or just toss a few packets in your carry-on.
And I never miss a sunrise, even if it’s just a little sliver on the hotel balcony. I need my morning light!

Hair and Shower
I would normally bring Bur Bur for San Diego vacations, but I’m choosing to bring JSHealth because of the Phoenix and Tokyo legs of the trip. I never know if a hotel will have hard water, and JSHealth tends to work better in those situations.
Comfy Outfits
I’m prioritizing comfort and clean ingredients in my clothing over trends. I want to feel good in the clothes I wear. These are the pieces I reach for when I want comfort, style, and fewer questionable fabric treatments—especially while traveling.
My holistic travel packing list always includes a travel steamer. The linens I bring get SO wrinkled in my suitcase, and it’s worth spending 5 minutes steaming my clothes before heading out on my daily adventure.
Dental Care
My SURI electric toothbrush is what I use every day, but now I bring it in my UV travel case. SURI is my top pick for a low-waste electric brush. The handle is made out of aluminum (not plastic), has a two-minute built-in timer, a UV case, and the heads are derived from corn starch.
I also pack my Slate mini flosser because it’s compact and effective. PFAS-free floss was really difficult to slide between my close-together teeth, and it would either break or get stuck. I bought 3 Slate flossers on Black Friday, and for the first time in forever, I don’t have to remind my kids to floss every night.

Medicine
Depending on the season I’m traveling, I bring some items from my wellness cabinet. It’s always better to be prepared than to be stuck in a different state or country, resorting to Walgreens or suffering when an illness hits.
I usually pack a few things for:
- Allergies
- Fever
- Flu
- Cough
- Congestion
I also bring supplements for immune and digestive support. Luckily, medicine is small, so it doesn’t take much room to be prepared!
What’s Finding a Spot in Your Suitcase?
Every single thing in my suitcase is there because it helps me feel more like myself when I’m away from home.
Wherever your travels take you, bring some of these holistic travel essentials. Whether you start with one swap or overhaul the whole bag, just start. Your travel experience is worth the thought you put into it.
The things that are available on Amazon, I put into a “travel” shop for you:
But, of course, all my favorite holistic travel essentials are available in my Toxin-Free Shopping Guide!
FAQs About Holistic Travel Essentials
Almost everything on this list fits in a carry-on. The frother, diffuser, and flosser are all compact. The one thing to check is the TSA rules on liquids for your sunscreens if you’re flying. I usually check a bag if I’m bringing full sizes or put some of the product in a 3-oz bottle to fit in a carry-on.
Start with one thing. Swap your hotel toiletries for products you trust, bring a daily supplement, or pack something that makes your morning feel like yours. Small shifts add up faster than you think.
