When it comes to clothing, I look for natural fibers, like organic cotton, linen and ethical wool.  I also look for 3rd party certifications like GOTS and OEKO-TEX.  Plant based dyes are my first pick, but low impact dyes are what most brands are using and the most accessible.

clothing

a note from Wendy

Even the cleanest clothing brands still need a small amount of stretch to make pieces functional-especially for things like waistbands and activewear, so some minimal synthetic fibers are often used.  There are 100% perfect organic options, but my goal is always 90% or more organic natural fibers and 10% or less synthetic material. The goal is always to reduce plastic as much as possible while still creating pieces that actually fit, move, and last.

better is better

my fave!

Pact isn't in the top spot because they are the absolute best, but because they have one of the widest sections available, from basics to underwear, loungewear, etc.. AND everything is made with GOTS-certified organic cotton, fair trade certified, plastic free packaging.  What sets Pact apart is their accessibility. Their pricing is far more approachable than other brands, they run frequent sales and now that they're available on amazon, they are the one stop shop,  convenient option for people who are trying to make better swaps.

My top pick for activewear is MATE's new Organic Stretch activewear line.  It's new and improved and super comfy! They use GOTS certified organic cotton, low spandex and low tox dyes to keep harmful chemicals out of the entire supply chain, while prioritizing plastic-free production. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is what I look for in organic fibers so that I know it is free from most toxic chemicals.

These are some of the CUTEST organic cotton activewear pieces around.  The lack of GOTS certification is the only thing keeping it off my favorites list.  Huge fan.

All wear has a GOTS Organic Cotton active wear line and their fleece workout shorts are a favorite of mine.  They do sell a bamboo blend line that is OEKO-TEX certified, so "better" for those who like the feel of bamboo.
