When my friend Abby from Fringe Heals went and dropped two incredible new kids’ products while I was gone, I couldn’t stay quiet. In this episode, we’re diving into everything wrong with the kids vitamin and supplement market, why “multivitamin” means absolutely nothing, and how Abby built the product I’ve been searching for but could never find.
We’re two moms just trying to live clean, cut through the noise, and share what we know. Today, we’re giving you no-filter, no-notes honest talk about what’s really going into your kids’ bodies.
Health Support Made Specifically for Kids
The supplement space and the health space are not really geared towards supporting kids at all, but Abby has gone out of her way to create something that’s very focused on kids.
Here’s how Abby says it happened:
“It’s the same story with every single product we create at Fringe—we end up making the things we wish existed on the market. There wasn’t a kid’s multivitamin on the market that I 100% loved.”
Some kids’ vitamins are pretty good, but there were always 1-2 compromises she had to make, like natural flavors, gummies, fillers, preservatives, and sugars.
Most kids’ multivitamins are either really poor quality, basically candy, or both.
The team at Fringe Heals set out to make a really high-quality, food-based (not a gummy) kids’ multivitamin that kids would actually like and look forward to having every day.
It took a long time to make, but it’s finally here.
2 Complaints About Normal Kids’ Vitamins
The biggest thing that keeps kids from taking vitamins is the taste. The best-quality multivitamins are usually in pill form, and that’s not an easy battle in most households. And if kids don’t like how it tastes, eventually they’re not going to take it anymore.
Or they get sick of it. If a child takes the same-flavored gummy for three years, they eventually won’t want it anymore.
The number two complaint is about the ingredients. You can go down a rabbit hole of supplement formulas. Looking at the ingredient list, you can see that some are pretty good, but it’s not ideal.
We don’t know:
- Sourcing
- Testing
- What they’re leaving off the label
That’s why Abby and Fringe Heals decided to make everything themselves because they just didn’t know what they were giving their children.
What Does Multivitamin Even Mean?
Honestly, a multivitamin doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t have a definition. There isn’t a set number of vitamins or minerals that must be in a multivitamin.
I found that as I looked at the ingredients in kids’ vitamins, I was searching for organic and certified ingredients. But the actual nutrients found in multivitamins vary widely from vitamin to vitamin.
Why Real Food Needs to be in Kids’ Vitamins
I asked Abby what she absolutely wanted to be in her new kids’ vitamin formula.
Here’s what she said:
- B vitamins for it to be mineral-rich
- Choline for brain development
- Made from food
And that last point is what most supplement companies skip. If you look at most multivitamins, you’ll find that the vast majority are synthetic.
And listen, that’s effective. If you have low B12 and take a synthetic B12 supplement, it will raise your levels. We aren’t saying synthetic ingredients are 100% bad, but children really should be getting their vitamins from food.
That’s the entire point of a supplement being called a supplement. It’s not meant to replace—it should be supplementing your diet. Our body is designed to absorb and utilize vitamins and nutrients from food and water.
The goal at Fringe Heals is always to be as close to nature as possible.
On most multivitamin labels, it’ll say the percent daily value. Most of them are like 10,000% of your daily value.
Newsflash: you don’t need that. You’re peeing out 99% of it.
The Potential Problem With Taking Too Many Vitamins
I recently did a supplement label reading for my private Toxin Free in 3 community. We talked about how taking that much over your daily value could throw off other parts of your body.
If one thing is way too high, what is that doing to everything else? Because it all works together. I always tell people that the reason why you want things made from food is that all of the different vitamins and minerals that exist in that food exist in ratios that we are meant to have in our bodies.
Of course, there’s always the argument about people in extreme deficiency, but products for the general population don’t need a crazy-high daily value. Special circumstances should be handled by a provider, not sold to the general public.
The New Fringe Heals Kids’ Vitamin
After extensive research and formula testing (done by kids themselves!), the new kids’ vitamins are ready to go.
I love that it’s a powder, especially for parents looking to avoid gummies. You can give it to toddlers through teenagers—it’s formulated for all ages.
And the best part of a powder is that you can use it in so many ways. You can put it in:
- Smoothies
- Applesauce
- Water
- Oatmeal
- Pancake batter
- Muffins
It’s so convenient as a parent.
What is NOT in this new kids’ vitamin:
- “Natural flavors” (whatever that means)
- Maltodextrin (filler)
- Silicon dioxide
This is an incredible new supplement for kids made with organic, real-food ingredients. If you’re looking to make a better choice for your kids, try Fringe Heals kids’ multivitamin. Use code WENDY10 for 10% off your order.
