So many women have hormonal horror stories. Today’s guest, Dr. Erin, took her health into her own hands. She started her career as a chiropractor and shifted over to women’s health after experiencing a lack of comprehensive care in her health journey. She underwent a long and painful journey to be diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition called autoimmune progesterone dermatitis, which was triggered by the birth control pill. I know this episode is going to be extremely beneficial for so many women struggling with their hormones. Join us as we talk about how to balance your hormones naturally.

What Does it Mean to Balance Your Hormones?
You’re not really balancing your hormones. It’s more so bringing the hormones back into harmony rather than balancing them. Every hormone in our body has a very specific task that correlates to another hormone, which correlates to another, and so on.
It’s like this cascade of intricate weaving to help our body find what it’s always striving for, which is homeostasis. Homeostasis is just our body trying to find an equilibrium. It’s bringing these hormones into a state where they’re not competing with one another. They are working with one another to find that equilibrium in the body and to make sure we are functioning well. So again, homeostasis is optimal functioning for us as human beings.
Hormone balance may be an oversimplification, but it’s good that the message of taking care of your hormones is getting out there.
I run a program called Toxin Free in Three, and part of that program is teaching women how to detox their lives. I walk them through a process, and as part of their process, we hop on Zoom calls and talk about their health issues or some of their priorities. I cannot tell you how many women are taking hundreds or thousands of dollars in supplements off the shelf that they went and bought because some influencer told them it’s good for them.
Then I ask if they’ve ever had a full panel of testing, like a Dutch test. Have you had a doctor run a full suite of tests on you so you actually know what your issues are? You may not even be deficient in these areas, and what you’re taking may make it worse.
I’ve never been attacked more in my entire life than when I did an entire podcast talking about why I don’t take vitamin D and why I go outside. Getting your vitamins naturally is the best thing to do because your body decides when it’s had enough.
The Importance of Hormone Testing
Healing your hormones is the most foundational thing you can do for your health. Dr. Erin thinks a lot of women don’t understand that because we have such a societal view of this oversimplification of hormones. When you think of hormones, you think of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. But, we’re forgetting about the endocrine system, which creates and moves around dozens and dozens of hormones a day that control so many of our different bodily processes, like:
- Metabolism
- Blood pressure
- Blood sugar
- Water and electrolyte balance
- Body temperature
- Growth and development
- Reproductive function
- Sleep-wake cycle
- Mood
When we understand how many processes our hormones play in our body, we’re talking about our overall health and well-being. Dr. Erin believes that testing is the missing piece for a lot of women. Most women want the little pink gummy that’s going to balance their hormones in a week, but they don’t know which hormones are the problem. When we’re looking at homeostasis and harmonizing all of those hormones, if you don’t even know which hormone is the issue, what is the little pink gummy targeting?
Dr. Erin uses the testing that solidified a solution for her and ignited her healing journey, and that’s the Dutch test. You can learn all about it in episode #47.
Your hormones impact so many things in your life. It’s important to take care of them and fully understand what’s going on in your body so you can treat it accordingly. I hope this episode helped you!
