Struggling with health issues and a tight budget as a single mom, I had to find ways to cut costs without compromising on my commitment to a toxin-free lifestyle. What if I told you that non toxic living can actually save you money?
The actual cost of the products on the shelves is just the tip of the iceberg. With a bit of context, I think you’ll find that embracing toxin free swaps leads to a more minimalistic life that ultimately costs way less in the long run.
For example, you don’t need a myriad of products to keep your home clean and healthy; in fact, less can indeed be more. Many companies that seem like the “cheaper” option are actually nickel and diming you for…water.
In today’s episode, I’m highlighting simples switches that won’t break the bank. From household cleaners to skincare that doesn’t cost a fortune – everyone, no matter what your financial situation is, deserves to feel the joy of toxin-free living.
The beauty of this approach is that it’s not just economical, but also kinder to our bodies and the environment.
In this episode, I talk about:
-
Why the idea that non toxic living has to be expensive is false
-
How a concentrated household cleaner can help you declutter your cabinets and save money
-
Outsmarting the skincare industry with cost effective swaps

Non-Toxic Living Doesn’t Have to be Expensive
Most people think going toxin-free means spending more money. I understand where that confusion comes from. When you’re shopping for pre-made, truly toxin-free products, the price is higher than what you’re used to purchasing at the store. But they’re not always more expensive.
Here’s the piece that’s usually missing: Going toxin-free means becoming a minimalist. In my experience, it’s saved me so much money. You aren’t buying tons of products that all do different things. You’re purchasing one or two that last a really long time and can be used for multiple purposes.
My favorite example is Thieves cleaning supplies. I clean my entire house with this one bundle (code SHAREYL for 10% off!). The cleaner and laundry detergent come highly concentrated. All you have to do is mix a little bit of the concentrate with water to make a cleaning solution. It lasts literally forever (like a whole year!) and that definitely saves me money in the long run.

Skincare Savings
I honestly can’t believe the ridiculous cost of skincare. I also can’t believe that the beauty industry has convinced women that we need 16 different products to maintain young, healthy skin. But the ingredients are terrible.
The average woman puts over 168 chemicals on her body every single day. This is one of the many reasons why we’re using so many skincare products. We’re trying to fix the problems our skincare is causing!
The best, most effective non-toxic skincare products on the market have simple ingredients. There are very few ingredients, but they’re very high-quality.
I’m a big fan of oil cleansing. It doesn’t strip the skin of natural oils, causing you to use moisturizer to rehydrate your skin.
Using your own essential oils (high quality, of course) to make your own skincare is so easy. As someone who’s wicked busy, it’s so easy to make your own non-toxic skincare. Just like it’s super easy to add cleaning concentrate to a bottle and fill it up with water. This isn’t going to take more time out of your day but it will have a huge impact on your skin.
Sure, the investment to buy all the ingredients to make your own skincare might be a little high up front. But think about how many bottles you can make from those ingredients. The investment pays off so quickly.
Choosing Budget-Friendly Non-Toxic Alternatives
If you think non toxic living is expensive, you might be looking at it the wrong way. If you buy pre-made products from non-toxic companies, it will probably feel really expensive. You’ll be paying $8.99 for a bottle of cleaner vs. a $3.99 bottle like you’re used to.
But if you use concentrates and DIY solutions, non toxic living can be much more cost effective. I encourage you to try some DIY recipes – you’d be surprised how easy it is to make a body butter or lip balm.
And for cleaning solutions, I highly recommend Thieves cleaner. I trust this brand wholeheartedly and promise the initial investment will pay off before you know it.
