Best Organic Intimates: Non-Toxic Underwear & Bras

INTIMATES

a note from Wendy

Your underwear and bra sits on some of the most vulnerable, absorbent skin on your body.  You wear your underwear and bra all day, every day, so what it’s made of really matters a lot.   Look for 93% or higher GOTS Organic Cotton.  Some elastane is hard to avoid in waistbands.  Bralettes are pretty easy to find, but there are limited options for full coverage, padded bras.  But, there are some amazing brands figuring it out!

the most important place to start

my fave!

I own a lot of PACT undies & bras. GOTS-certified organic cotton, no toxic dyes or PFAS, and made in Fair Trade Certified™ factories so both people and materials are cared for every step of the way. Their pieces are soft, breathable, and made to last, and I love that their prices are accessible to a lot of people, especially if you wait for a sale!

GOTS-Certified Options:

Designed, grown, milled, cut, sewn & dyed here in the United States.

Great budget GOTS cotton options, but they also sell a ton recycled nylon & other fabrics I avoid, so read labels and stick to their organic cotton.

These brands are using GOTS certified organic cotton. GOTS ensures strict limits on toxic chemicals, environmental impact, and ethical labor practices from start to finish.  Brands may sell other fabrics as well, so read labels.  These brands use lower impact petroleum dervied dyes.

more non-toxic options:

Canadian based company, using Australian Merino Wool, & less than 10% spandex. (undies only)

certified B Corp, organic cotton free from: latex, spandex, synthetic fibers, harsh dyes, resins, bleach, formaldehyde.

100% organic GOTS Supima cotton is known as the cashmere of cotton, & plant bio-based elastic waistbands, plant based packaging. zero plastic.

TENCEL underwear OPTONS:

Tencel provides a very light weight and breathable experience that some people prefer to cotton when it comes to underwear.  It is a non-toxic alternative to organic cotton.  These brands are OEKO TEX Certified.

I love this company and own a lot of their underwear and camisoles.  When I workout, I prefer Tencel over cotton for my underwear.

Huha is 90% Tencel and offers a wide variety of undergarments.  I do avoid their mineral underwear line, unless a doctor recomments zinc infused undies for a medical reason.

need a full coverage or padded bra?

A 100% organic cotton padded bra is elusive.  Hannah D. is creating one, but in the meantime, these are the best options available for larger women who need a full coverage, padded bra.

Plastic free full coverage bras, nursing bras and even a padded bra!  The foam pads are polyester but fully covered in natural fibers.

Siella has a full coverage padded bra that people love that is 95% organic cotton. They have an organic cotton collection, but sell other fabrics, so be careful & only shop their organic cotton line.

Third Love has an organic cotton line of bras that are 93% organic cotton / 7% spandex and their perfect coverage bra goes up to size H(DDDD).  They sell other fabrics so read labels.
