Honestly, shampoo is often the most frustrating clean beauty swap for people. Whether or not a shampoo works for you will depend on your hair type, but it also really depends on your water. If you have hard water, then you will probably need a shampoo with stronger surfactants that can work in that environment. In hard water, plant based cleansers are less effective, harder to wash out and can leave your hair feeling greasy and not clean. They work MUCH better in soft water. If you don’t have a whole house filter and water softener, I highly recommend you at least install a shower filter with softener. There are some great ones listed on this page. I PROMISE, your hair and your new clean shampoo will thank you.
Hair Care
After using and loving Rahua for 2 years (I have soft water, so it worked great for me), I have officially switched to JS Health. This is the HOLY GRAIL of clean haircare. It works in hard and soft water and with all hair types. My hair is so luxuriously soft and it's also full of really great hair growth support.

The biggest complaint surrounding shower filters is that it really reduces water pressure, especially if it's a filter that does any real reduction in contaminants. Eskiin is newer to the market and is hands down the best combination of chlorine removal, contaminant removal and water softening. It uses a blend of KDF-55 and calcium sulfite with coconut activated carbon. If you want the BEST contaminant removal, you'll have to sacrifice the softening. See those options below.
