What you put in your vagina is absorbed quickly! Avoiding PFAS, dyes, fragrances, pesticides and heavy metals as much as possible is so important to your health. My top picks are GOTS certified organic and total chlorine free. Beware companies that claim to be organic, but use Titanium Dioxide (like L brand sold at Target)
When it comes to tampons, these are the best. They use traceable 100% organic cotton from Europe, with GOTS and ICEA certifications. They also third-party test to make sure that are no pesticides, added chemicals, metals or other additives. They are ridiculously clean and my top pick.
Notes: Cora, Rael & Honeypot tampons are all organic cotton, however, they use petroleum derived paraffin for the string. These would be "better, but not the best" options. Lola is not recommended due to lawsuits claiming that their cotton falls a part and causes painful removal and infection.
TT gets top spot for pads as well. It really doesn't get much better than this. Individually wrapped in a starch film and a biodegradable polymer for adhesion. Completely all plastic-free, and wrapped in recycled paper. 100% pure GOTS and ICEA-certified organic cotton absorbent core and top sheet organic cotton from sustainable small-growth farmers.
VERY close runner up! Made with 100% certified organic cotton and regeneratively grown hemp fiber &100% biodegradable.
VOXAPOD is made in Portland and uses only the safest medical grade, biocaompatable silicone available (Certified to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485 medical device). They are woman owned and the genius design is soft, flexible, and super comfortable. Big, big fan! They also sell a great cup sterilizer.
I really, really love this brand. There isn't a 100% natural fiber brand out there, but Lilova mostly uses GOTS-certified organic cotton and all materials are OEKO-TEX 100 materials. All of their products are free of silver nanoparticles and tested not once, but TWICE for PFAS. They have a wide range to choose from, including swim wear and a line specifically for teens.
Voxapod makes an organic option that is PFAS free, made GOTS certified and the skin layer is 95% organic cotton. Also, no leaking!
What touches your skin is a blend of regenerative hemp fiber & organic cotton with 5% spandex from Tencel. They only have regular flow undies, but also carry a overnight sleep set.
Revol has a wide range of options and uses a mix of bamboo & organic cotton materials that are OEKO TEX 100.
Prior to production, fabric is tested for over 400 toxins and carcinogens, in addition to a wide range of PFAS. The lining is 95% organic cotton. While these are not GOTS certified, these are well tested and by far the most budget friendly option.
Not GOTS, but 95% organic cotton inner liner and their organic liner also has 95% organic cotton outer.
I have a teen daughter and period underwear was what I chose to start her with. Lilova has teen options for light days, heavy days and nightime needs. They are simple to use and cute too! Eventually, my daughter asked for pads and during summer lake season, she likes having other options as well. Scroll down for more options.
All 3 of these brands are found in Target & Walmart as well as in some pharmacies and grocery stores.
You can find this brand sold at Walmart & Target as well as Amazon.
Notes: Cora, Rael & Honeypot tampons are all organic cotton, however, they use petroleum derived paraffin for the string. These would be "better, but not the best" options. Lola is not recommended due to lawsuits claiming that their cotton falls a part and causes painful removal and infection. All of these brands have organic cotton topsheet pads, however the inside is synthetic. These would be "better, but not the best" options.
All the following brands are easily accessible at Target, Walmart and Amazon.
